Last week I took my student out to meet a friend and her horse, Nelly. Nelly is a beautiful Irish Draught Mare only 2 years old, so very much still a baby despite her size! She's working on fattening up and toning up those huge muscles and hoping one day to work with children and adults with disabilities. Nelly has a beautiful nature and subtle cheeky personality and it was lovely to see that shine through in her interactions with my friend. They've been together a year now and already you can see a lovely bond developing. Nelly shares her paddock with two other horses, a handsome, stocky, spotty gelding called Peppa who is VERY cheeky and a sweet older mare called Rosie who sadly has some Arthritis, but despite this loves a good romp around the field encouraging the others to chase and play.
We spent a couple of hours with the horses in the exceptionally hot sun that day until Demi, my student started to feel quite unwell, but I'm sure we will be back through the seasons to photograph different environments, weather, and movement including some jumping, lunging and ball play.
The horses were incredibly curious and eager to come see us and discover if we had any tasty treats and didn't mind a good scratch and bit of fuss.
Photographing horses is one of life's little pleasures for me, I could watch them all day. There's a few more beneath the cut of all three horses. Keep your eyes peeled if you like these, they will be back!
